Taught weekly by Edwin Roa and Lynda Buechel.
The beginner level class (Tango 101) is offered on Tuesdays at 6:45pm. The Beg/intermediate level class (Tango 201) is offered on Wednesdays at 6:30pm, followed by the Int/Advanced level (Tango 301) starting at 7:15pm. During these classes participants will be encouraged to rotate partners. Students are welcome to attend the classes individually, or with a partner. We strongly suggest wearing appropriate attire and suitable dance shoes. Everyone is welcome, nonetheless each class has some requirements that students should keep in mind before signing up.
The following are the descriptions of each class:
Tango 101 (Beginner)
Tuesdays 6:45 to 7:30pm
This class is ideal for absolute beginners, and essential for anyone aspiring to advance within this dance style. This class will explain the musical distinctions of dance styles, such as Milonga, Vals, and Salon, and it will provide participants with the foundations of body mechanics. It will explain the types of embraces (connection), types of walks, and mechanics of leading and/or following. Partners are not required.
Tango 201 (Intermediate)
Wednesday 6:30 to 7:15pm
This particular class will focus on connection and navigation.
Students will be taught amalgamations that will help them understand how to deliver and/or interpret common elements such as Ochos, Sacadas, Ganchos, Barridas, etc.
This class will explain popular tricks and games typically displayed in parties or milongas. Basic understanding of the type of walks and connection is essential.
Tango 301 (Advanced)
Wednesday 7:15pm to 8pm
Ideal for intermediate and upper levels, this class focuses on dynamic movement and sharing axes, we will explore elements such as Colgadas and Volcadas.
Most amalgamations will include elements that deal with counterbalancing actions. Experience is required, partners are encouraged, but not needed.
“Guided Practice” 8 to 8:30pm
During this half-hour, the floor will be open for general dance. This time could be treated as Q & A, or simply open dancing. Students will be encouraged to explore ideas and practice their own repertoire. We will monitor the music and offer suggestions along the way. (It is important to note that this session will be open to all levels, and people will be expected to be social and exchange partners.)
Wednesdays at 8:00pm all AT class attendees can enjoy a 30-minute FREE and supervised practica. Lynda and Edwin will be on hand to trouble-shoot your dancing while you practice.
